About The Appletones

The Appletones have fooled a lot of people.They look like a road tested American rock band making every attempt to age gracefully. But when you find out who they are the first question is always, “How did this happen?”
The Appletones is the brainchild of, Ray Appleton. Besides being the bass player, Ray has been able to feed himself thanks to a 50 year career in radio. For the last 32+ years he’s championed a California-based radio talkshow that is heard throughout the West Coast. This daily chat-fest leaves tens of thousands of good people scratching their heads asking themselves, “What did he just say?”
Back in the day Ray worked in the recording industry with several legendary artists. He’s always dug performing stuff from The British Invasion. But he wanted to rev it up a bit. And so…
Lead singer, Jon Kapetan, is a publicly elected Superior Court Judge. Brother, Marc, an engineer/producer, guitarist, is a well respected defense attorney. In the early 90’s drummer John Sotelo chased his dream on the LA club circuit playing with several MTV Headbanger’s Ball alumni. He’s even been produced by the legendary Roy Thomas Baker of Queen fame. Lead guitarist Jason Barnett is a tried-and-true musician with countless hours honing his craft in the studio and on stage. Oh and he produces horror movies in his spare time.
The Appletones have opened for, everyone, from the pop coastal sounds of the Beach Boys to hard rocking metal heads, Y&T. In between have been encounters with The Kinks, Joan Jett and some guy named, McCartney. The son, not the father.
There is a familiar BANG to The Appletones musical repertoire. Their favorite tactic is to find famous, British B-sides, circa late 60’s to the early 70’s, and give these songs pure 21st century sonic surgery. With and audience ranging from 25 years old to dead… IT WORKS!
